Overview

LumoTV Academy: Talent Acceleration 2.0 is a professional development opportunity for deaf, deafblind and hard-of-hearing media professionals who are ready to take the next step in their careers. The programme will take place at the National Film and Television School in Beaconsfield.
 

Course Dates and Location

Thursday 1st and Friday 2nd October 2026

Food, travel and accommodation are provided for two nights starting from the night before the first day.

Programme Overview

Designed by Flashing Lights Media, Drummer Television, and LumoTV, this course is aimed at deaf media professionals with more than two years’ industry experience who want to develop their skills and progress their careers. There are 12 places available.
 

Course Content

Across the two days, participants will take part in sessions led by industry experts, delivered in British Sign Language or interpreted into British Sign Language. Topics include:

  • ’Pitching 101' – how to pitch your creative ideas to funders and commissioners successfully.  This will include how to approach potential commissioners, the most impactful ways to present your ideas and how to deal with feedback. 
     
  • ‘Casting’ - How to cast; the dos and don’ts of casting contributors or on-screen Talent and what to think about when drawing up your casting list.  This will also look at duty of care obligations and due diligence.
     
  • ‘Shooting for the edit’- Planning unscripted filming in advance to help you get the most from your shoot once you’re back in the edit. 
     
  • ‘Creating content for online’ - A session looking at the different ways to shoot for online and how to generate the best engagement for your content.
     
  • Q&A’s with deaf Talent from both scripted and unscripted backgrounds - to chat with them about how they got into their current roles and top tips for your next steps.
     

Selection Criteria

To apply, you must meet the following criteria:

  • You must be available to attend the course in person at the National Film and Television School in Beaconsfield on Thursday 1st and Friday 2nd October 2026.
  • You must be / identify as deaf, deafblind or hard of hearing.
  • A proficiency in BSL is desirable but not essential.
  • You must be a mid-level media professional.  This means we’d expect to see you have at least 2 years’ industry experience.  Ideally, we’d be able to see that experience via your public profile on LinkedIn,
  • Talent Manager or similar platform.
  • You must demonstrate a commitment to progressing within the media industry.

Please send your CV and either a cover letter or a BSL video explaining:

  • why you want to attend the course?
  • what you hope to achieve from it?
  • what have you been watching recently?

If you applied or attended previously, you are welcome to apply again.

Your cover letter should be no more than 500 words. If you are submitting a BSL video, it should be no longer than 2.5 minutes. Please send this, along with your CV and professional online profile (if you have one), to training@lumotv.co.uk.

Interview Process

Applications will be reviewed by an industry panel. Selected applicants will be invited to interview during the week commencing 6 July 2026.
